Omo Valley Immersion
Market days and standing invitations, in one of the most ethnically diverse valleys anywhere on earth.
The Journey
9 nights, designed around the hours that matter
Built around market schedules and invitations rather than a fixed village checklist, with a cultural mediator travelling alongside your guide from start to finish. No per-photo fees; community contributions are paid transparently at village level.
Who this is for
Travellers willing to slow down for community-led visits, markets and mediation rather than a photo-stop circuit.
What this is not
Anyone expecting pay-per-photo “tribal tourism,” same-day multi-village ticking, or a luxury lodge every night in the lower Omo.

Day by Day
The itinerary, as it usually runs
A working draft rather than a fixed schedule — we move days around for weather, festivals and how you are feeling.
Day 1
Arrive Addis Ababa
An evening briefing on the communities you will meet, photography consent, and how market calendars shape the week ahead.
Day 2
South to the Rift
Drive into the Rift Valley with a lakeshore stop, overnight near Arba Minch ahead of the highland villages.
Day 3
Dorze highlands
A morning with a weaving family in the Dorze villages of the Guge hills — bamboo houses, enset gardens — then continue toward the lower Omo.
Day 4
Key Afer & Turmi
Saturday market at Key Afer when the calendar aligns, then settle near Turmi — the usual base for Hamar country.
Day 5
Hamar invitations
Village visits arranged through elders; if a bull-jumping ceremony is offered that week, we accept and leave the day flexible around it.
Day 6
Dimeka market & river camps
Market day at Dimeka when it falls, then a riverside camp beside the Omo rather than a fenced compound.
Day 7
Karo riverside
Time with Karo communities along the river escarpment — body painting and settlement life on their terms, with the mediator present throughout.
Day 8
Mursi highlands
Into the Mago approaches for a Mursi highland visit, paced slowly and only with prior arrangement — no roadside bargaining.
Day 9
Return north
Begin the journey back toward Arba Minch or Jinka for the flight connection, with buffer time if a late invitation appears.
Day 10
Addis & Departure
Flight to Addis Ababa, a farewell lunch, and an evening departure.
